Do
I selfie? Well, yes! I love taking selfies, but I think I selfie for different
reasons than what we talked about in class. I really don’t take a selfie to
convey beauty. Yes, I try to look presentable, but that is not my main focus. I
take a selfie to show people what I am doing. I think what a person is wearing
and what is in the background of a picture is almost more important than the
person taking the selfie. Taking 10,000 bathroom selfies tends to get boring.
Do you really sit in the bathroom all day just taking selfies? I want to show
the world, or at least the people who follow me on Facebook and Instagram, what
I am up to. I promise you, I don’t want to see 10,000 bathroom selfies, so I
can assume others looking at my pictures feel the same way. I take selfies when
I am on vacation or at an event; these are the moments I want to remember.
By
looking at the above pictures, I can tell you so many stories that go along
with the images. The top two pictures are in Miami, Florida for Ultra Music
Festival. I attended the festival with my brother and my best friend. I can look
at the big picture on the top left and say how scared I was to be above the
crowd on the shoulders of a stranger. The pictures with my parents and medals
represent all my hard work as a senior on the University of Michigan
Synchronized Skating Team. The other pictures are memories with friends through
the year that have stories of their own. These types of pictures tell so much
more than me trying to look attractive in a bathroom selfie.
The
article that we read in class states that poses are important! Yes, I follow
some of these poses, but in general I want to make the memory that goes along
with the photo. I do not spend time thinking about what pose is going to make
me look the best, there is not enough time for that. “The
pose is important. Knowing self-awareness is conveyed by the slight raise of an
eyebrow” (Day,1 ). The picture on the top left follows this self-awareness
pose, but in the moment that was not my thought. I think my selfies say I am
adventurous and a hard working person. At the end of the day, I don’t take
selfies to see how many likes I can get on a pictures. I take them for the
memories. So, why do you selfie?
